A series of images from Arlington West - Santa Monica Beach, California. Every Sunday since February 15, 2004, a temporary memorial is erected in the sand by Veterans for Peace and other volunteers. The names of the fallen are listed on a wall with age, rank, hometown and circumstances of death. As stated by VFP,"...Recognizing that life is representative of concentric circles of interconnected relationships, each cross represents more than simply the loss of one individual life due to war...Arlington West offers a place to contemplate the human cost, consequences and causes of war, and to grieve and acknowledge those who've lost their lives and to keep their memory alive and to care for those still living, their wounds, though invisible, being no less painful than the loss of a loved one." The panel quote for 'Walking the Earth' reads: "We have flown the air like birds, and swum the sea like fishes. But have yet to learn the simple act of walking the earth like brothers." Martin Luther King, Jr. 20% of proceeds support the work of Veterans for Peace. Visit www.veteransforpeacela.org
